New iBook Seminar?

One reader points out a seminar at CompUSA to be held on May 10th, 2006 about the "new iBook"

Quote:
- Overview
Hear about the most affordable iBook ever.
- What you will Learn
Specifications and features of the new iBook.
- Featured Solutions
Hear about how the new iBook is your go-anywhere digital solution.
While suggestive, CompUSA and these training sessions typically do not have any inside knowledge of upcoming products, so this is unlikely to represent a true "leak".

I expect someone at CompUSA is guessing, and ironically it's at an event posted at Apple.com

"most affordable iBook ever"

I doubt it. That day will come when Intel Core prices come down. But right now, the new iBook/MacBook will almost certainly cost a little MORE than the last one. Just like the Mini.

And like the Mini, it will be so much improved that it's still a great deal.

(Plus, mention of "iBook" is suspicious. Few believe that name is here to stay.)

'most affordable iBook ever' probably refers to the iminent price drop of the current iBook once the new MacBook arrives. so the events could be intertwined somehow.

I'd love to see a price drop but not at the expense of dedicated graphics. I'm not going to be the one whose complaning of a price increase as long as we keep our graphics cards.

Well, Apple could've provided CompUSA with this "flyer" and this information; CompUSA might have nothing to do with it.

But how could this not be about the new "macbook"?! Is it fair to call the existing ibook "all new"?

3PM - 4PM EST. That would make for a 12PM PST launch of the new laptops. We get up the earliest here in the States on the East coast. Why do we have to wait?

seems strange for anyone to promote a product that is over half a year old, regardless of how affordable it may be about to become.

Exactly, "new" is used in multiple places so obviously this is not refering to the current iBook offering.

The 10th is Wed, and MacBooks are more likely Tuesday/tomorrow.

But since I've decided to be difficult and predict that they won't come until later this month, I guess I have to stand by that no matter how much it hurts!

Someone should just call CompUSA and ask about the event. I doubt mr. part time knows what a NDA is, but may have more info.

Sounds like this is just sales talk. It's an in store event designed to sell iBooks and I don't think this is evidence at all.

If you've ever worked in retail you'll be used to calling everything 'latest' or 'new', even if it's 12 months old.

Actually...

My brother worked for CompUSA for about a year, and the trained portion of their apple staff does usually get early warnings / training about a week prior to major product launches. He was trained on the MacMini about a week before it was released, and when we were all still musing about it's exsistence...

I don't think a new ibook (macbook) will be released tomorrow in an apple store. I think this "DO NO OPEN UNTIL 05/08/06" is the Macbook Pro 17"

Almost sounds like the phrases Microsoft used for their new micro-portable computers..

Truz, that makes zero sense. There is no point in being secretive about an already announced product, it's not "DONT PUT UP TILL TUESDAY", it's "DON'T OPEN TILL TUESDAY".

Excuse me? That seminar is on May 10, 2006. It is the most affordable ibook ever, meaning they will start at $799. No doubt.

I was just talking with two old friends, Corporal W. S. J. "Nobby" Nobbs & Sargent Fred Colon. They've been working on this case since November of '05 & in their latest report to Commander Vimes (Written in rather indistict crayon) they claim that "done it" Duncan told them that the new, "iBook" will be released tomorrow.

I must point out that they have turned in similar reports every monday for the past 5 months.
But I still believe them, godsdamnit!

My appologies to those who don't know Pratchett & to those who know him better than I.
