Higher Education Store - No Applecare?!?

I just checked back on the uk apple HE store, and they've stopped doing the £56 applecare cover, in fact when I checked yesterday to my horror it appeared to be back up to full price, but I just checked again now and it has disappeared altogether! theres not even an option to choose it...just 'NONE'

I'm looking to purchase a MBP (hopefully merom) before I start my third year in october, do you think they will ever bring back the £56 applecare, or applecare at all? I'm confused as to why this has happened...

well, £56 is better than full price! but i hear what you're saying...

the t&c dont mention 'applecare' though, just 36 months 'warranty'...im guessing this is the same thing right?

Could just be hardware warranty but like no phone support etc associated with AppleCare, I guess? But that’s good enough for me, that’s all I'd be buying AppleCare for anyway.

i noticed the t&c (9.1.1) also says that the telephone support is extended from 90 days to 1 year. this is good but not the three years provided by applecare.

also if you purchase applecare the laptop is under a warranty that can be transfered (if/when you come to sell it). if you enter the serial into the support section on the apple website it will say 3 years remaining, but if you enter the serial of a macbook from the HE store without applecare it only shows 1 year.

i know that you are not meant to sell any product you bought through the education store but even the rep said if you get applecare it will increase the resale value and at £56 it is a bargain, so i guess they are not that fussed.

Very Interesting thread, So if I caught things correctly buying from the Higer Education Store gives you free 36 month warranty??can anyone confirm for sure or show a link confirming this??

It would make sense as when accessing the store you cannot add applecare to a purchase of a MacBook

Does anyone know if when you check your warranty information on the Apple SUpport webpage if it will display 36months of warranty?

Not sure Shadow -

But these terms might not be across the board on all education stores. Just to be sure, you need to check from the store your Uni or discount card goes to the same terms (Which is probably likely), but its better to be safe than sorry.

Those T&Cs I posted were from the NUS store.

I should be fine then as I purchased my MacBook via the NUS store I will call Apple up tommorow morning to confirm the 36 month warranty and will report back....

I was told that the £58.75 was for technical phone suppport APP but i don't know how true that is.

i spoke to applecare on my first mbp. they said it was covered for 3 years limited warranty, no phone support (except for the standard 90 days). when i entered my serial into the above box (support page) it said only 363 days coverage. so i assume you cannot pass on the applecare (or limited warranty) to anybody else. but you CAN transfer propper applecare.

Higher Education store. There's a difference. As a Uni student you can get even more money off. Usually about 14-16% discount in total as opposed to the regular Education store's 10%.

You have to either use your NUS student card to get to the NUS Apple store through the NUS website or you have to use a special link on the Apple Store which only works when on a campus connected computer.

Oh, so theres no way I can get to that page? I wouldn't wanna order anything at those prices if i'm not supposed too, i'd just be curious what kind of prices they are.

macgeek2005...aren't you in the US? The included 3-year warranty isn't available in the US. It has to do with European Union trade laws...

Just called Apple up and the sales Rep confirmed that the products bought via the NUS store are Guarenteed for 36months for Hardware fault but you do not have the phone access like normal applecare....
