Which would you sell?

Hey everyone-

Which machine would you sell?

A clean (with box and all extras) 1.6 PowerMac G5, 1.5GB RAM, 160 GB HD, Tiger, Airport & Bluetooth: $1250

or a 12" PowerBook 1.33 G4, 768MB RAM, 60GB HD, Tiger, Airport & Bluetooth: $875

I would include an Airport Express for $50 bucks too.

Cheers for looking.
Joseph

The Powerbook, and on eBay. They're going to lose a heck of a lot of value even on there in the next few weeks, and it's best to get rid of it as fast as possible if you want to get the most you can out of it. eBay takes a while to respond to changes in tech like the new MacBooks, so you'll still get a good price if you sell now.

I second this - plus, a few people who were waiting to see if the MacBook would have dedicated graphics may be interested in picking up a 12" Powerbook cheap...

Sell the PowerBook, those computers are toys. The 1.6 PowerMac G5 is a computer. I have a TiG4/667 w/15 screen and hate it. It is slow, crashes alot and can't stand the the keyboard. I have used a 12" PowerBook 1.33 G4, the screen is too small for my use. The PowerMac G5 is a better value, keep that one.

Personally, I would keep the Powerbook. There's nothing like being able to take your computer wherever you want.

Sell the PowerMac G5. I have the same machine. Even though it's going to be a few more months before the PM goes intel, the price of the PMG5 will drop just like the other Macs. The previous guy is right, its better to keep the Powerbook because if you go mobile, it's nice to have a computer with you. But if you plan to do heavy graphic intensive work, then the PMG5 will be best to keep. It all depends on what you do on the computer.

Light work = Keep PBG4, sell PBG5
Heavy work = Keep G5, sell PBG4

Which would you sell?

I'd sell the PM. They will definitely drop in value when the new Intels come out (probably in August). The PB is a good little machine and it's nice to be able to take your computer with you.

I'd recommend trying Craigslist in addition to (or instead of) eBay... I was able to sell my Powerbook through Craigslist within two days of listing it.

Which brings up a good point: The very nice folks who bought my Powerbook from me bought it, and NOT one of the new Intel-based MBPs, because the software they're going to use most (ProTools from Digidesign) apparently doesn't run well on Intel-based machines... they were happy to get my Powerbook from me, especially since I kept it in perfect condition. So right now is possibly the peak time to dispose of an old PB... when there are people who still need the PowerPC versions because of software issues.

I say sell your Power Mac G5 and keep your PowerBook G4. It is nice to have a machine that you can take with you anywhere that you go!

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to sell the PM. I have a 20" ACD that I can plug my 12" when I am at home. I will just wait out a new computer for the time being and eventually up to a B version of the MacBook Pro.

Anyone interested in a PowerMac with 200 or so days of AppleCare?

Good on ya.

Joseph
