<Insert Creative Quip>, MR DC Picnic

I'm not the creative person that BV is, but I was wondering if folks around the DC area might want to have a picnic sometime late July or August. I figure the Mall is always a nice place to have lunch and just hang out. Anyway, just throwing it out there. What do people think?

You should have thought of that last week: my wife would have been along to join you.

BTW, how was her trip? Did you get the place back to "normal" before she got back?

Normal? It was better than normal. She had a rather strange but enjoyable time, and thanked you for your advice.

Oh, good, I'm glad it was helpful.

So, now you've got me curious. What was strange about it?

July and August? Is that because you like to sweat and wilt in the heat and humidity?

If you have a picnic on the Mall you should do it in September

Yeahbut. I only suggested late July/August because I finish take the bar July 25-26 (or is it 26-27...I should look at a calendar), and so I can't go until then. Besides, I love the humidity. Not only does it keep the tourists out of my way, but there is something reassuringly wonderful about being able to feel the water in the air. I really do love it (as long as I have enough water to drink). One of the best times of the year in DC proper.

But, if people would be up for September, that would be fine too. I have to get used to the idea of not heading to class come September anyway...

I guess the question of when still needs to be answered. I don't mind waiting till September if that works better.

errrrrr... could you please tell me how it keeps the tourists out of your way? they're EVERYWHERE (yes, i know their tax dollars pay for the free meuseams that i enjoy year round)

and if i have to go another summer listening to someone tell their children, "look! the white house!" as they point at the CAPITOL BUILDING (or vice versa) i'm going to go to jail for homicide.

She was out in the 'burbs, for one, in Springfield, which is a bit odd all round. No walking, only cars. Nobody waiting for buses except two black guys. Then she went to Ocean City, which was even odder.

But she loved the American Indian bit of the Smithsonian.

I should have been more clearer. It doesn't keep the tourists away, it keeps them in the buildings. That way, if I'm getting around town, at least I don't have to see them. Since most of them make the A/S circuit (start and end at A/S), it works out well to stay a couple of buildings ahead or behind them - them you almost don't know they are there....

Sometimes it's fun to watch them scurry from one building to the next, dragging the tired toddler with them. It's like a bit of sweat is going to make them melt like the Wicked Witch.

You bet we can.

I would be on day 20 of uptime if we hadn't had a power failure the other morning.

Hmm... maybe we'll have to have two separate MR picnics in DC then.

Gary jinxed us I think. My iMac G5 has to go in for spontaneous and continuous rebooting.
