I am having problems with mail

I can?t send messages out via mail?I keep getting a server error on port 25!!
WTF???

I know all the settings are correct because I have a .mac email address!!
My SMTP is smtp.mac.com
I am also using an Airport snow Base station.
Someone help please!!

from time to time i had the same problem. but after restarting the app, it was often gone. my account wasn't .mac one, but i also had no changes done to that an fault could come up... strange.

since 10.2.4 it looks these messages don't appear anymore. though can be luck, too.

I have Jag.4, and I can receive mail, but I can?t send it?it is really pissing me off!!

It is possible that the server is temporarily down, but when that happens it usually just tells me I have the wrong password till it is back up.

Edit: I just checked the time difference between your 2 posts, seems rather long for an outage. Do you have a second computer on that network that you could test it with? If not, you might want to start troubleshooting the app itself. Permissions, fsck, and possibly dragging the prefs out of the prefs folder temporarily
