That's a common feature of disk optimizing or defragmenting programs like Norton Utilities (DO NOT USE on OSX!!)

The- whatever its called- defragmenter from Alsoft that comes (or used to come) with DiskWarrior
Not that it is of any use, mind you. On a largish drive, the blocks are just to big to be definitive of anything.

WhatSize and OmniDiskSweeper will tell you where space is being used but I'm not sure either will do so in coloured-block form. 😱
