i was wondering if there was any way for iPhoto to work like iTunes in the fact that i could use it w/o having it move all my photos to it's directory. i have all my photos already sorted and do not feel there is a need to do that all over again just so i can use iPhoto. in iTunes, i can choose whether to have it copy the files to it's own directory or just access them where they are. an option like that would be perfect in iPhoto...

In iPhoto 6 you can. In preferences > advanced, un-check "copy files to iPhoto library folder wen adding to library."

dang, sounds like it.

would it be in my best interest to just get iLife 06 then? or can you (would you want to) purchase iPhoto by itself? i've never had to purchase it before since it came on my powerbook.

iPhoto is part of the iLife series, you need to buy the entire package in order to upgrade iPhoto.
