Job options with apple certification

Ive been thinking of getting certified by apple, first starting with Certified Help Desk Specialist and then moving on Certified Technical Coordinator and ultimately a Certified System administrator, while I can do it over time and relatively inexpensively, im thinking of what I can actually do with the certification, what is the job market like with people with these certifications, I can motivate it for personal purposes, but I would like to make some money off of it.

Unlike in the PC World, where certifications are a must, Apple tech jobs generally view them as optional.

Some places might weigh them in their consideration, but a lot of places don't care one bit. In fact, even the majority of places that DO require them will usually hire someone without one and allow the person to take the test after they've started (on their dime), assuming he or she is the best candidate.

That being said, there's certainly no harm in picking up a certification or two. It's just another thing to add to your resume, I suppose.

As far as I've seen, Apple Techs make the same as PC Techs - companies that hire both usually put them in the same job bands with the same starting salaries.

You may want to check out Monster.com postings in the cities you're interested in working and see what the Mac Tech jobs are offering; that's always a pretty good starting point for salaries.
