Ah the cube, I remember it well. That was the first MacWorld I ever went to, and I got to see it in person. Still have my cube poster! Always wanted a cube, its a shame Apple has not since then released a medium range consumer expandable machine!

2000, right?

Hold on, I think it should be 2000, not 2001. I got one for my freshman year, which started fall of 2000.

I agree with you. The cube was discontinued before it was released

best day ever.

(and yeah it was 2000, it's nice to be able to use a 6 year old computer and not feel it.)

Definitely 2000.

I rember buying mine in December of 2000, and according to Mactracker (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/5968) the Cube was introduced in July 2000 and discontinued in July 2001.

The cube was a work of art, but not very practical as a computer. Too expensive for consumers and not expandable enough for prosumers/professionals.

I don't know of a single peripheral or upgrade that wasn't possible with the Cube ...

Firewire MIDI/USB & Firewire sound and video in out
Hard Drive
Processor upgrade
Video card upgrade
DVD Burner upgrade
DVI/VGA

What else was there to expand that wasn't available in "external box form"?

I loved the cube. I wanted one really bad. It was bad timing, I think. If released at a different time it may have done better. Who knows. Cool looking though. It would have looked better in Aluminum, though.
