.DMG file extension?

If you double click the dmg file I believe it will be unzipped into a virtual drive.
Disk Utility is good if you want to burn a dmg file.

As nobody has clearly stated this before, I will. A .dmg file is a Mac OS X disk image file. This acts as a virtual drive once mounted. To mount a disk image just double click it in OS X. Once it's mounted you use it as a regular drive: drag and drop files in and out of it. To unmount it, just drag to the trash.
Many downloaded applications come in disk image files.
If you're using Windows, you're out of luck. Get a friend with a Mac to burn it to a CD/DVD.

Could I burn the file to CD would that have the same affect or better to mount? or do I have to mount first
Burning to CD would have exactly the same effect as mounting. OS X uses images extensively, it's not a hack like it is on Windows.

Hey guys. Im new to macs(just got an iMac to learn on) and have a USB CD-RW hooked up and im running OS9.1 Is there any program that will let you burn to a USB Burner? I know that the OS is picking it up, because if i put a cd in it, it pops up on the desktop. Also, is it possible to burn .dmg files with OS9.1?

I have only foggy memories of 9.1, but you might be able to find an older version of Toast that will let you do this. Also, you can upgrade to 9.2.2 for free (which may or may not be of help in doing what you want to do).

Now im confused...so you can either mount the DMG or burn it to a CD then it will work is that right?
