My PowerMac G4 boots in 27 seconds. I clocked it this morning.

Post your unit's boot time.

Used the counter on my DVD player, my Ted Baker doesn't have a second counter....

44 seconds, I'm slow...

23 Seconds from Power button press to a desktop on mine.

Powerbook G4 17" (HR) 5,9 - 1.67GHz, 2GB DDR2-533MHz, 100GB 7200 RPM HD

Is that your MBP booting?

I would have thought It'd blow the PPC units away.

Intel MacMini 1.66, 2GB: 42 seconds to full desktop from pushed button off a LaCie external HD. 34 seconds booting off the internal HD and lastly 76 seconds booting a minimalist Windows XP from the internal HD.

24 seconds from power button push to being able to access desktop, including the short time it takes me to type my password at the login scree. I swore I've seen similar threads, and I posted there too, and it was even faster back them. *Scratches head*

Wow, it looks like my Powerbook is even better than I thought.

I was thinking that Intel stuff with the dual processors would be substantially faster at everything, but now I find out that my Powerbook can boot in half the time as a MBP.

A MBP will boot much faster in equal conditions.

Comparing boot times is like comparing browser loading speeds. There are way too many variables to get accurate readings. One day my computer will boot fast and other days slow. After a clean install, it boots in like 15 seconds. It starts to slow down as time passes.

Wow that's fast. My powerbook took 53 seconds this morning when I rebooted it. Doesn't really matter though, I only restart for silly threads like this, or when updates are available.

Exactly. A more fair reading would be depecting the bootime _and_ the
programs that run at startup.

Powerbook - 55 seconds on battery, 52 seconds on mains power.

Need to reboot for iMac, back in a few mins :)

[Ok back.]

iMac - 43 seconds!

I think having CS2 on the powerbook slowed it down a bit as it has the thingy ma jig to load on the taskbar.

MacBook 2.0 GHz, 1 GIG Ram - 23 seconds

I haven't timed it ( I've only booted twice! ) but it's in that ballpark. I'd be suprised if it were any slower than 25 seconds. 2GHz white macbook, off the shelf, 512MB ram

would anyone know why my brother's MB boots up faster than my MBP?

He has the 1.83 MB with 1.25 RAM, which boots at around 25 seconds. I have the 1.83 MBP with 1.5 RAM which boots at around 37 seconds. Im confused...

Might wanna run some maintenence apps and clear off any stuff
will slow your machine down.

Go to www.versiontracker.com and search for OnyX.

Sure boot times can change, but there are ways to improve it.

You can always stick a 10k rpm hard drive in your mac...or a 7200 rpm in your portables.

Whenever my mac is in a good mood, it will do a quick boot with no complaints.

43 seconds for an iBook G4

iBook G4, 10.4.7, 1.5G RAM, built-in HDD (4200 rpm) just performed ONYX maintenance.
