looks good... great news for the IT people... really customizable.
I'm glad it can take so much memory! Wish I could afford one.

Get one of these with 10.5 and Time Machine and you have an enterprise-class server ready right out of the box backup included. Very nice. It's also nice to see them give the XServe a little more thunder. Some of the XServe updates have been rather quiet updates. Apple could really stand to grow in the IT marketshare and the XServes are awesome computers.

Hey look, no wonder the MacBook couldn't get an X1300, the XServe stole it! *Runs away*
Ok joking aside, this is great news. Transition is now over and done with, so Apple can focus on keeping up with Intel's roadmap.

Dual power supplies.
I also noticed that they added redundant power supplies. Don't think that was there before.

Two new features added today that will really help the Xserve's case in the enterprise market:
1. Dual redundant PSUs (though it's not a standard feature). 2. Lights-Out management hardware, making remote control a whole lot easier and more powerful.

What about Server?
So this means that they are making 10.4 server universal then. Sort of lost in the mix eh?

I never realised that the old XServe didn't have redundant power supplies and remote management until the keynote!
frankly i think apple should be embarrassed that they weren't there before rather than proud they have them now.

ummm Raid anybody?
I know you are all singing the praises here, but with out built in raid it will not see deployment where I am. I do NOT understand apples refusal to put raid in, they are one of the few that still has 3 drives in a 1U server combine this with a $150 dollar SATA raid onboard, and I could see it give Dell and HP a run for their money.
Maybe I justed missed it? If so apple could see more of our dollars..

(of course, it spends it's life doing other things now, so itunesregistry.com doesn't get to use it, anymore. Hopefully i'll get enough donations to buy one of these Xeons) |
