Great! I'm also downloading it (202 Mb? WTF?) and will try it on my MacBook when I find my copy of Windows.

Looking forward to hearing your results on the Mac Pro!

It contains all the drivers for the iMac/MacBook/MBP and Mac Pro hardware variations. What did you expect?

What they should consider is make the installer download the drivers and create the ISO image on the fly for your given hardware...

Maybe this will fix the problem I have when partitioning..

Apple Releases Boot Camp 1.1

Apple has quietly posted an update to Boot Camp to version 1.1. According to the Boot Camp page, the new version remains in beta and contains many updates for all new and previous Boot Camp beta users.

New features include:

• Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
• Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
• Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
• iSight camera support
• Support for built-in microphones
• Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
• Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys

Boot Camp is Apple's Windows-on-the-Mac solution, allowing owners of Intel-based Macs to install and boot Windows XP alongside Mac OS X. Unlike virtualization solutions, Apple's solution requires you to reboot your machine to switch from one operating system to another.

Boot Camp was originally released in April 2006, and the final version is expected in Leopard Mac OS X 10.5 which is due in the Spring of 2007.

Anything to improve the experience of running Windows on a Mac for those potential switchers who are wavering has got to be good.

Nice to see iSight support etc creeping in.

I might finally download it and install the Vista Beta on my MacBook.

...I can't believe I am considering installing Windows on my Mac.

So after this update, what Mac features does Apple still not support?

Front Row (or the infrared port), but what else...?

One reason why it may be so big (i'm downloading it now, so I don't know yet) might be new firmware, maybe? Glad to see that it has the iSight drivers. I'm using Boot Camp 1.0.2 and when I try using the iSight in Windows, I get the Blue Screen of Death.

It would be cool if Apple also let people run Linux, too. That would take awhile to do all the drivers and I don't know how many people would use it, but it would be nice.

Linux already works fine under bootcamp. If you have a little initiative, you can build or find a kernel which boots without bootcamp. There is a version of LILO for EFI that you can start with, for example, refit http://refit.sourceforge.net/

I don't know if there's an out-of-the-box linux solution that will boot to GUI with all versions of the mac hardware (mostly video hardware). With Bootcamp though, I think the mini and imac are working with most distributions.

If the Beta has this imagine what we'll see with the real product when it ships with Leopard.

I enjoy using bootcamp. But what do you see that's so special. It's just Windows working as it would on any other PC.

figures. I redo my entire system over the weekend using Parallels which works pretty well except for games. I do this because Boot Camp up til now has blown a big on on the MBP. without reliable suspend the thing is worthless and borderline dangerous if it wakes up in its neoprene skintight case. (Which it has done on multiple occasions. So I went with Parallels and now this. Oh well. I'll redo my system again when I get my 160GB hard drive. Until then I'm Civ IV-less.

There is an excellent app that helps with the MacBook Pro power management, it can be found in the onmac.net forums...and it helps with all that.

Is there a place to download the full set of update drivers anywhere? I have installed bootcamp 1.1 however because I have a triple boot setup with OSX, XP and Linux, BootCamp doesnt like the partition setup and only gives me the quit option when I try to run it. I did grab the single set for the iSight as mentioned in this thread and thats working, but theres a few other updates that would be nice too.

As mentioned here or in another thread, you can use the menu option in Boot Camp to save the installer to a USB key or network share from within OS X. Beware it's 200 MB.

Yeah, I just never found the exe in the tree, however control/right clicking on the bootcamp assistant and then viewing the contents allowed me to find it. I was trying via the original pkg in the dmg. Thanks anyway.

No you don't, but you will have to reboot at least once. I also had to re-enter my WEP key....
