For the last week I've been working on a website for a friend, tweaking a Flash header as I go. I thought I was done but wanted to make another quick mod to the .FLA, and when I got to the folder where it was supposed to be - it was gone  Just the SWF sat there daring me to figure out how to extract my objects and Actionscript. Spent about an hour looking for something to make an FLA out of an SWF. Nothing unless you want to pay like $70. Forget that. Anyways, I back up every night, but I must have blown it away before the previous night's backup. Looking around on my HD I found like 4 different iterations of the file in different folders, all of them days old. I was very frustrated to say the least.

How nice it would have been to take a trip back through time!

To make a long story short I finally calmed down, pulled out my notes and re-coded the header. It wasn't that bad. It was definitely an exercise in self-control though

I had a similar situation a few days ago. Someone was on their way up the stairs to my room and I had some pictures on my comp that I did not want them to see. Instead of hiding them, in my panic, I deleted them. I have been in regret ever since, those things were pure gold. I'm pretty excited for TM.

And no, the pics were not porn. I already have that hidden. Duh.

Those may be recoverable, still. At least some of them. Try using something like Data Rescue, which has a free demo.

I think you just found a new use for time machine. Invisible files... which aren't porn... no really... they aren't. ;)

I know a fellow designer who calls me up every couple of months to ask if there's any way he can recover the file he's just accidentally deleted. He rang up yesterday and I told him about Time Machine, he sounded quite excited. :D

Man, same sort of thing happened to me. I was working on a multimedia site, and had the main site complete and was adding in the video. I had just finished, and was cleaning up my files that I didn't need, well I deleted a file and it took too long, and all of a sudden the Explorer Window closed. I was like, oookkk. So I open it back up, and bam, there was nothing there... So I was frantically looking around making sure I was in the right folders. After downloading 3 file recovery programs, I wasn't able to retrieve my complete site. Long story short, I failed Multimedia and have to take it again this year, which sucks.

Moral of the story, backup everything, ever, got derm thing.

I had the main page backed up, but the videos I made and everything else was lost, so the site was missing all the extra things, I plan on using this same site for the project this year, so that is a plus I guess, luckily I had already had the hardest part done.
