[help] Sony Vios VGNAR190G or Merom MBP ?

sony vios VGNAR190G the lastest with bluray thingy is out..
and i am waiting for merom MBP now..

persoanlly, i love mac so so so so so so x 9999 much..
i am using power book g4 now.. i wondering how fast.. how good.. merom mbp

i am student of VFS vancouver film school.. in the 3d program..
basically we use alot XSI softimage to model and animate..
*xsi = 3d software / need about 2gb ram inorder to runs smoothly*

and XSI only can run on windows..
should i buy the sony vios for my school use.. or merom mbp?
since merom mbp can reboot and switch to windows..
so i can install XSI in it..
basically, what i wan is.. dun have to deal with viruses, pop ups..
and can runs XSI fast and smoothly.. most important is..
great graphic 🙂

the one that we switch to windows in mac..
will it slow down the performance?

i read lots of thread.. for this whole morning.. alittle headache now..
any opinion are welcome..
and many thanks for ur opinion if you have one to share.. 😀

ok, seeing as you want a MBP, i'd say get one. waiting for Merom is upto you, but one now will suit you anyway.

running Windows on a Mac isnt slow. it runs natively, although, not like VPC in a window. you have to reboot. just making sure thats clear.

Also, if you use Windows, you'll still get viruses and popups, so you still need to take the usual windows precautions if you use the windows side to access the internet.
 
I'm not sure I really understand people being confused about buying a Mac v. a PC. I am in the process of switching and I don't care if Dell or Sony came out with a processor that was three times faster than the Merom (or Yonah) for that matter, I would buy the Mac because I want the Mac operating system and all the goodies that come with it. I also don't want the bugs, crashes and viruses that have plagued all of my Windows systems.

I think you should really consider what it is you want. Nobody but you can decide if you can live with the Sony.

of cos i prefer mac.. mac dun give me real problems so far..

but the problem is.. i need to use XSI in windows..
i wanna run windows in mac.. and install XSI.. and use it..

the thing that i am concern about.. is.. XSI basically need lots of ram..
and need a fast performance to support..

thats why i am thinking.. if i install windows and XSI in merom MBP..
will it be slower?
and.. rendering need alot of rams though..

anyway, mac rocks.. love them so much..
but i seriously dun wanna deal with windows problem in windows in mac

I usually don't like to correct grammar and spelling, but this has gotten to a point where I don't exactly know what the poster is saying...If english is a non-native language, disregard this statement with my apologies.

Firstly, how much RAM can a MacBook Pro use? I think it's 2 GB max, but I'm not sure. Maybe if you get two of those very expensive 2GB sticks of RAM, you can get 4 GB. I'm not sure if this is possible, so check to see if the MBP can take 4 GB.

To make sure you understand clearly, if you use a MBP and use Windows, you need to reboot your computer and choose WindowsXP instead of Mac OSX. However, Windows XP on a Mac will run as fast as WinXP does on a Dell, HP, IBM/Lenovo, etc. You'll still need an anti-virus software to protect you from viruses when using WinXP on a Mac, so you'll still have the same Windows problems on a Mac if you use Windows XP.

His writing isn't THAT bad, except his use of the word "dun" instead of "don't." If you can't understand what he's trying to say, maybe you have the language problem. 😉

Well, yes, it actually is that bad. And I was using exaggeration to state a point, his posts make sense, I just have a hard time getting past the writing. I knew someone would say a line like you did. Haha. 😉
 
if you are still confused on how running windows on a mac works...just take a look at http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ 🙂 its just the same as running windows on a windows notebook except you choose when starting up the computer whether you want to run windows or mac os
 
Running OS X is invaluable to many of us, and it is hard to compare a Mac and a PC when this applies to you (seems like it does). You could always add an external burner to meet your needs if you go with a MBP, I'm sure it would be faster then the laptop drive in the sony. And Apple states that 2GB is the max ram you can have. Do they even make 2GB dimms for laptops? Don't think so...

It all comes down to OS X. I think you'll be very satisfied with the MBP if you choose it.
