The MacBook seems to make a huge noise only when using a CD or DVD. It isn't the fans as I'm sure of that but more like the reading of the CD/DVD.

I'm puzzled as to whether this is normal or not.
 
That happens on my mini. I wouldn't call it a hissing, but when i put a disk in, it is kinda loud while the computer is sucking the disk in.
 
I'd say it's normal unless it's damaging your disks. My mbp's superdrive is much louder then I've ever heard the fans get to.
 
The CD drive in my iBook makes a racket when loading and a whirling sound when reading. It's so annoying I don't even try to listen to music CDs or watch DVDs instead I first rip them to the harddrive. I think it's the slot loading design, no baffleing?
