Microphone Problem

I have a Beige Power Mac G3, and an Apple Plain Talk Microphone. My sound control panel in (Classic) OS 9.2.2 recognizes the external microphone as a sound input source, but the OS 10.2 sound control panel does not. Is there something I can do to get OS 10.2 to recognize the microphone as an input source? Thanks.
