Bought my son an HP Laserjet 1600 yesterday for use at college. He's got a Dell desktop system and an iBook G4 (he uses the Mac as his primary computer).
Setup the printer and loaded up the Dell, no problem. Went to load the Mac and, duh, no driver on the CD. A little poking quickly revealed that the printer is "not supported" on the Mac. WTF?!
I fooled around with the Printer Setup utility associating other (supported) HP Laserjet drivers with the printer - just trying to get any kind of basic printing going. Nada.
Years ago most printer setup utilities included a basic driver for a "generic printer". There doesn't appear to be anything like that in the drop-down dialog of Apple's Printer Setup Utility. Is there any other way to get any kind of basic printing working?
TIA.
