So all the text on my desktop icons & window title bars, and pull down menus has been replaced by little a's in a square. Looks as if the font fkle has vaporized? What the ????????

Thoughts? Ideas?

Have you tried rebooting? My second step would be to Resolve Duplicates in the Edit menu of Font Book. 🙂

Tried re-booting, yes. But that's all I tried...I decided it was too wierd, and I was too tired, so I went to bed. It's my home machine, so I can't try your idea until tonight. Thanks!... and thanks in advance to any who have a thought on this wierdness. If this was a PC I would think virus..possible?

This is an imac G5, btw.

Not a virus, most likely just a corrupt font file, annoying and rare but not unheard of.

Not easy when you can't read the menus. Screenshot (I'd post one but I'm at work on a PC)?

Fair point. 😛

This is in Font Book which will be in the Applications folder by default. If you're having trouble finding Applications, press COMMAND-SHIFT-A in Finder. 🙂

You guys are the best. Thanks a million! I'll try it as soon as possible tonight. Actually I might even sneak home at lunch & give it a shot. It's a bad feeling knowing that something is wrong & I've got work to do tonight.

No worries mate. Be sure to report back with any more questions or a solution. Good luck. 🙂

Well, I did the resolve duplicates thing...no effect. So I killed the font folder & replaced it with the one copied from my laptop. No effect. Then I got irritated & just said "ah screw it" and reinstaalled the OS. So it's all better, although I probably "overfixed" it. That was one weird problem, though.
