Apple Releases Core 2 Duo iMac, Adds 24" Model
http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif
While keeping the 17 & 20 inch form factors, Apple has released a new big brother to the iMac lineup. The new machine features a 24 inch widescreen in the familiar all-in-the-screen form factor. Under the hood all of the iMacs now feature the newly released Intel Core 2 Duo with speeds from 1.83 GHz to 2.33 GHz, making it up to 50% faster than the previous 20" iMac. The new machines are available in the following standard configurations: 17 inch 1.83GHz $999 US 1440x900 resolution 2MB L2 Cache 512MB RAM 160GB SATA HD 24x Combo Drive Intel GMA950 64MB Airport Extreme 17 inch 2.0GHz $1199 1440x900 resolution 4MB L2 Cache 1GB RAM 160GB SATA HD 8x Double Layer Superdrive ATI Radeon x1600 128MB Airport Extreme & Bluetooth Apple Remote 20 inch 2.16GHz 1680x1050 resolution 4MB L2 Cache 1GB RAM 250GB SATA HD 8x Double Layer Superdrive ATI X1600 128MB Airport Extreme & Bluetooth Apple Remote 24 inch 2.16GHz 1920x1200 resolution 4MB L2 Cache 1GB RAM 250GB SATA HD 8x Double Layer Superdrive NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128MB Airport Extreme & Bluetooth Apple Remote Last edited by Doctor Q : Sep 6, 2006 at 10:45 AM. |

Great product from Apple, and the rumors got it wrong with release date and screen size.

I'm so glad I'm in Microcomputer Apps right now and have access to the internet, I just glanced at these specs and OMG they're pretty amazing, 24 inches instead of the 23 inch wow just wow.
I can't wait to walk into an Apple store and check these things out, that 24 inch screen has to be amazing!

I assume the Merom is inside?
But these babies are gr8 value! Luckily you don't have to choose for the 7300... you can get the better 7600 inside. Not brilliant, but it's better.

New iMac looks nice. 24"? never would have guessed it at the $1999 price though, the $2499 Mac Pro starts to look attractive (or the downgraded to 2Ghz Mac Pro which is $2199)... EDIT: then again, I don't have a big screen at home, so the 24" iMac would be a huge upgrade in both screen and computing power |

Wow!!!
I definitely did not see this coming on a Wednesday. I'm heading to Apple's site right now to check it all out. Go, Apple! And $999? Holy... Edit: Haha, I'm just laughing with excitement over here. I love Apple! I'm probably not getting one, but this is so sweet. I definitely can't wait to try it out in an Apple Store.

Interesting... I heard that several new Apple products could be given "unexpected" launches... i.e. without a keynote performance by Steve.

Conroe or Merom? I can't find that on the Apple webpage...
![]() EDIT: And the 24-incher still has the chin... I was hoping for a sleeker chinless model (not that I am buying one anyways - can't afford it right now)

Apple missed the boat on the external storage front here.... It had a chance to be a leader, but instead is still pushing 1394.

I ordered a 20" iMac a couple of weeks ago, but it hadn't been dispatched yet (in fact, it was due to be dispatched today). The Apple order status site was down earlier, until just after the Apple Store came back up with the new iMacs, and lo and behold, my order has been replaced with a 20" iMac Core 2 Duo!
They've even upgraded the RAM to 2GB (I'd paid for an upgrade to 1GB on the original order), and dropped the price I pay! So top marks to Apple - a brand new iMac, specced higher than the original, for £80 less! I don't know many other manufacturers that would do this - it's the kind of service that keeps Apple customers loyal. The only downside is, I was expecting it to be delivered on Friday but now I have to wait until the 19th! But really, I don't mind! |
