price drop, not for mini

components are even more compressed in a mini than the iMac, i'm not surprised, the markup that Apple gets off of a mini is small to begin with they aren't going to drop the price. notice though on the lowest end of the iMacs they removed BT and the remote? it also only has a combo drive and integrated graphics. hence the nice price drop.
It's because they dropped some of the specs on the entry-level machine...it's now more like the EDU-only one that was briefly available to individuals.

Cost me five week's pay for my first base model Mac Mini (the original), with Office for Mac, ready to use back in 2005. Add another 2 - 3 weeks pay for a monitor and other peripherals.
Was just over a month's pay for my base model 2009 Mac Mini, plus iWork. No Office, or new peripherals required. Spent about a week's pay on RAM (added 4 GB) and OS X (Snow Leopard then Mountain Lion) upgrades. I am still using it.
Now I could pick up a base model 2014 Mac Mini, with the iWork apps included for less than three weeks pay, the mid range model for about a month's pay, and the off the shelf top of the range for less than six week's pay.
(My pay has increased by about 12% since 2005)
Getting a core duo at the same price of a core solo is not a price drop????

It's currently 499$ in the USA, which is the lowest price I think it's ever been. I believe the original PowerPC Minis were 499$ then Apple increased the price by 100$ when the Intel Mini was first released. Maybe Apple will punish us with a new Apple TV form factor and a 100$ price increase.
The low end clunker is not worth more than $399. More like $299 with that damn spinner.
