MacBook Pro Upgrade At Photokina?
http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif
MacShrine believes that Apple will update the MacBook Pro to use Core 2 Duo "Merom" processors at Photokina (in addition to the anticipated Aperture 1.2 update). According to the site, Apple will employ the 2.33 and 2.16 GHz variants of the chip, however there is no mention of any other updates (enclosure, etc). The MacBook Pro was last updated in April 2006 with the introduction of the 17" model. At this time, MacBook updates are not expected despite consistent worldwide shortages, which was anticipated in Apple's most recent financial conference call. Apple will be hosting a special event on September 25th (just before the beginning of photokina, which begins on the 26th). |

Sounds good. Hope it happens for those waiting for it.
I also hope the design is revamped i.e. magnetic latch etc. Maybe an ACD update to boot? |

Woot hopefully price drops too
I'm wanting to upgrade my MacBook and get some more power in here (and get a real GPU, not some crappy Intel fake).

Prediction
2.16 and 2.33 Merom options
Magnetic latch MacBook style keyboard New video card (Nvidia?) 160GB hard drive option IMO, these are the least that Apple can do to keep up with other high performance notebooks in the market. I think new MBP's will arrive one the same day as Photokina although they may not be highlighted at the event. |

Dreaming really (note 1920 res. hack for PB thread here has over 100k views, Apple get a clue!), but hopefully the delay has more to do with better upgrades, vid chip (Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX, 512 MB please), a true HD screen (WQUXGA would be even nicer, 4k res, yeah baby, just the ticket for Leopard and the 17in model), etc. ; than limited supply of Merom's...why put them in the iMac 1st when the profit margin is higher on the MBP's- which are in more need of an early upgrade than the iMac? Dell already has these features in one of it's expensive laptops (though almost twice as thick, which makes it much easier to implement): http://www.mobilityguru.com/2006/08/...sli/page2.html |

but i agree on the best possible graphics card, at least as an option. and an option for 160GB hard drive. it's the least they can do. hell i would also love it if they offered the option for blu-ray drive.

It would be a nice thing to have a rumor-source rating system of some sort -- as a newb, I couldn't really judge from the search results whether MacShrine should be taken seriously or not.
As for the MBP -- I'll believe it when I'll see it. |

In the last couple of weeks I was predicting Photokina, but I had changed my mind yesterday, thinking of the new iMacs as precedent--release the iMac, follow with an event the next week. Release the Macbook Pro C2D (Tuesday the 19th), follow with an event the next week (Monday the 25th.) I still kind of stand behind this, but I'll be happy either way, though I would be happier if they released them on the 19th. Though the Macshrine site lists Photokina as happening on September 14--yesterday. Quote:

FINALLY!!
The more people that are reporting rumors, them more "true" they can become! I too like the keyboard and like the backlight. Am I correct in thinking that the MacBook DOES NOT have a backlight keyboard? I'm not that fuss on those style keys! Dan :-) |

A full week delivery time seems like a bit of long wait for someone who is ordering a MBP. Why can’t they send it second day for an extra two bucks? Although I agree that Photakinda seems like the logical date for an update, I’m confused who would order a MBP snail mail? Could you bump that up if you called back and did the overnight gig? Just curious. |

I believe the new macbook pro merom's will be .1-.3 inches thicker, and POSSIBLY incorporate a new blu-ray DVD burner, 160GB HD, ATI X1800 Graphics card, and improved display to 1920X1200 for 17". I believe this to be true based on the information gathered from brenthaven's website, showing the 12/15 pro case that is out of stock is 1/4" thicker in the space needed to hold the macbook. The only reason for this is if they know "something" we don't...such as a thicker machine. Also, they are coming out around the 26th-30th. Maybe? what do you guys think?
