Can Macs read DVD+R discs?

There has been another thread about this but no one who had actual experience answered, and most didn't understand that DVD+R is different than DVD-R.

Here's my question: Can Macs READ DVD+R discs, as opposed to DVD-R?

Mac Superdrives only WRITE DVD-R (Note the "-"). But can they READ DVD+R (Note the "+") discs? How about combo drives?

Doesn't work on a superdrive

Apparantly no one cares, but I've answered part of the question myself. I found someone with a Mac with a superdrive, and it does not work. I work for a professional photographer and we use PC's for photoshop (speed reasons).
A single shoot often produces 5-10 Gigs of photos, so CD's are out of the question. The PC Superdrive we purchased for $200 is the DVD+R type. The discs read on my PC Combo Drive no problem, so does anyone know if they work on a Mac Combo drive? My Mac only has a CD burner.

work. i would imagine, tho i cant test cause i dont have any dvd+r burned discs handy. im under the impression that any dvd, once burnt, should read on any dvd reader. its just what kind of media one may write to (-r, +r, etc)

to i have been known to be wrong about things once or twice.

i would not imagine any dvd media would read on just a cd-rom drive.
 
From what I remember reading about DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, data written on DVD+R will not work on DVD-R drive, because DVD-R writes data like larger capacity CD-R (something about sequential write) whereas DVD+R writes data like a floppy (random access write).

However, DVD movie written on DVD+R might be a different story, as DVD+R/RW forum claims DVD video written on DVD+R/RW will work on large number of DVD players out there.
 
i don't have any +r data discs lying around, but my superdrive imac wouldn't read a +r video disc, it keeps trying to access it, but never does...

Yep this helps a lot. Thanks! Bummer though, we should have bought the Sony drive that burns both + and - type discs, or just something that was a DVD-R drive for cross platform compatibility.
