Wireless internet speed on Mac Pro gradually decreases in XP?

I have a Mac Pro with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. When I connect to my family's wireless router, it starts out with me being able to access the internet at 5000kbps, a really nice speed (tested it at bandwidthplace.com/speedtest). Then, over the course of half an hour or so, it gets down to 100kbps or less. I have no idea why this happens. Any ideas?
