There have been a few different threads over the past while regarding BSG, so with the much anticipated Season 3 starting this Friday I thought it would be fitting and timely to start The Official Battlestar Galactica Thread. I'm sure there are many fans of the series here on MacRumors, so consider
this the one and only (hence official™) thread in which to discuss all
things BSG!

So, feel free to discuss your thoughts on the previous seasons, webisodes, or simply how great the show is :D and as the episodes air for Season 3,
they can all be discussed here, along with news articles, spoilers and
all that good stuff. For spoilers, the use of white text is the
courteous thing to do of course. ;) :)

And if you see any other BSG threads pop up, just direct them here! :D

Looking forward to another amazing season of the best show on television.

I'm going to start by bitching that the 2hr season premiere and its encore presentation is DURING GAME 3 OF THE YANKEES-TIGERS SERIES!!! ARGH!!!

Looks like I'll have to go to iTunes on Saturday...

[EDIT: Okay, I found some encore dates later on in the week. Must...not...flip...channels...]

umm did I see Xena in the preview?

Yep, Lucy Lawless is one of the "bad guys" of the show. As yet, she has not thrown any sharp circular objects, belted out any warcries, or don revealing body armor.

Not sure if watching from the start of Season 3's going to make any sense to you...I started watching near the beginning of Season 2, when the Galactica is boarded and Apollo runs like mad from a Centurion. Great scene that made me say, "Whoa, this isn't the usual Sci-Fi channel crap."

I've actually just ordered seasons 1 and 2 on DVD because they're on sale for $40. I've never watched it, but I've heard so many good things and I'm a big sci-fi fan so I'm looking forward to it! :)

That show rocks! I'll be on iTunes on Saturday downloading, so don't give anything away!

Then I'd avoid this thread on Friday night, and Saturday until after you watch. Almost all of the TV threads thus far have agreed on the concept of "once the show finishes it's earliest showing spoilers will run rampant, if you don't want them don't read this thread until later."

I don't see this one being much different.

Which in my book is a terrible shame. David Eick (one of the BSG producers) used to work for Raimi and Tapert in the Herc/Xena days. He made some comment in his video blog that Tapert once told him something along the lines that the cheapest most effective special effect was a beautiful woman riding a horse, so there is hope.

It's actually kind of nice to see her in something this good. There were a few episodes of Xena where her talent as an actress really showed, but the subject matter was so campy (though fun), few would notice.

Well I have to hunt down season 1 & 2 then. I always come in from work/class and see my housemates watching it so I'll give it a go.

In the US, the Season 1 DVD comes with the preceding mini-series. Make sure you start with the mini-series, if only to get the chronology right.

[edited to fix typo]

Watch the So Far Video

I don't know if you guys know but you can watch a few of the Battle Star Galactica episodes and a "what has happened so far..." episode on itunes for free.
The what has happened episode is pretty sweet and is 40 something minutes long. Sadly though it does not give anything away for this upcoming season. What do you think is going to happen in this next season? I hope they don’t spend a whole season on that planet trying to get off.:D

Don't know how long this has been up on SciFi.com, but they have the first 13 minutes of Season 3 online now. I have to say, the end of that segment is really disturbing.

I actually bought about $20+ worth of BSG episodes from the miniseries to season 2 on iTunes. Then, I realized that I should have bought the DVDs ... so now I have Season 1, 2, 2.5 ... I don't have cable and know I'm going to buy season 3 on DVD once it comes out. I shouldn't spend anymore on iTunes movies, nooo!!!

There, fixed it for you. :)

BSG, oh how I loved you. Ron Moore, stumbling in the dark, out of ideas.

I'm *so* looking forward to a season of endless flashbacks to the one missing year.

Can't fracking wait for my BSG

"OH MY GODS!" This is why my wife hates the show and I cringe while I watch it. That "frackin" word is soooooo worn out and stupid. I really wish they would just cuss for real or drop it all together. Also, the stupid dumarses that are in love with cylons need to die. Are they that hard up for chicks in space? Aside from that the show rocks.

Season 2.0 & 2.5 in single boxset soon?

The wife and I enjoyed the pilot and first series, though missed the second series.

Wondering whether there's expected to be a cheaper, single boxset for the 'whole' 2nd Series, sometime before Xmas?

~CDN$100 for the two seperate boxsets currently available is a little steep.

Yeah, for anyone who hasn't seen the series yet, definitely start at the beginning. ;) Watch the mini-series for starters, then Season 1. That's really the only way to truly appreciate the series along with all of its marvelous plot and character development.

I sort of had the same feelings after watching the Season 2 Finale, however I ultimately wasn’t disappointed. And I definitely wouldn't say they "guttted" the show and the end of Season 2.

Initially I was frustrated once I realized a whole year had passed which I knew nothing about – but then I was curious, and almost excited to find out everything happened, which will no doubt occur during Season 3. And perhaps I’m a glutton for punishment, but I almost like not knowing, and being back to square one. One thing I have really enjoyed about the series is how, well, you just don’t know what’s going on! You’re right there with the crew on all the twists and turns, trying desperately to figure things out. Nearing the end of Season 2, I was starting to feel comfortable – I had a much better idea of what was going on, where things stood, etc. Now, I feel “lost” again, out of my comfort zone, and quite frankly I like it. ;)

I think the “change of scenery” is a good one as well, as is the concept of New Caprica being occupied and Galactica and Pegasus not being in a very good position to do anything about it. ;) I am definitely eager to see how the writers take the story this season.

Damn it, this thread has only just started and I'll have to avoid it until I can gain (ahem) access to the new season episodes.(kudos ~Shard~)

I too keep on wondering what direction the show will take as it seems very bleak at the moment after watching the webisodes, how the heck are 30,000+ people going to escape the clutches of the Cylons, there's no way the fleet could mount a successful military campaign with only a skeleton crew and I can't see the resistance being too successful either, it's going to be interesting these coming months as to how clever the writers really are, it's just got to be plausible as well as entertaining. I hope they haven't painted themselves into a corner, it's still bloody exciting waiting to see what happens though ;)

I think I might have to re-watch season 2 as it seems forever since the end of season finale and I've forgotten more than I remember.
