Apple discontinued the original Mac only 22 months after it was introduced. The first Mac was gone this month in 1985.
It was gone in 1985, not 1990. The Mac Plus
was discontinued today in 1990. And the Plus was decidedly not
"the original" Mac. (I could understand the argument that the Mac 512Ke could still be called "the original", but the Plus is too different.)
Also, the last Mac to use the same 8 MHz 68000 processor (the Classic) was discontinued in September 1992. The last Mac to use the same form factor (with 9" black and white screen) was discontinued in October 1993 (the Performa 200, the identical Classic II was discontinued a month earlier.)
