why not make a laptop with removable screen... no cables?

seems like it'd be difficult to squeeze the broadcast equipment necessary for the monitor signal into a small enough package...

though a removable monitor is an interesting thought. Perhaps a retractable cable?

It could work, but when you removed the screen from the base you would have to have an external power supply, since having one inside would be too big/heavy.

Don't drop it is my best suggestion.
