Macs at BestBuy

That's good for me. There are plenty of closer best buys to my house or apartment than either compusa or the apple store.
 
This is what, the third time Apple's tried selling Macs at Best Buy?

Hopefully it will work better than their last attempt. As they say, "third times a charm".

I think the problem with last time, though, was that with the colored iMacs, people wanted certain colors, and other colors didin't sell. Best Buy didn't like the akward inventory, and they stopped selling Macs.

With their current lineup, I don't think they should have a problem.

its bad enough at CompUSA. BestBuy is gonna make CompUSA look like the holy grail of Apple shopping. GAWD i hate everything about best buy. just dont try getting some help with a Macintosh purchase..........

Did you read the article? They are going to be putting Apple people inside of Best Buys, so you won't have to deal with the Best Buy people who'd rather play with the TVs than answer questions.
 
well I'm not interested in getting help nor advice, Mac products at Best Buy would be pure convience, there are currently have zero stores that carry mac products in my area right now.
And I think it's like that in a lot of places.
 
I am with Medea. Although I detest Best Buy, the closest Comp USA is an hour away for me. And there is a local Mac shop, but he has no inventory to browse. This would be a good thing in my book since I could get more people to switch. 🙂
 
they already tried selling ipods at some bestbuy just a few months ago and stopped because no one was buying them.
 
well of course no one bought an iPod for a Mac there...no one who uses Macs think to shop for computer stuff at best buy. If they carried computers etc, then they could carry the iPod and sell them as people realize they can shop there for all their computer needs if they want to.

they DO sell windoze iPods fine.

If I remember correctly, I think the specific problem was that once Apple released the multi-colored iMacs they required Best Buy (and I'm thinking everyone else) to have all the colors in stock at all times - Best Buy wasn't having that, and backed out of their deal.

My Dad bought the original iMac at Best Buy and ended up getting screwed over - when the CRT went he tried to bring it back to them citing the extended warranty he had purchased (not Apple Care - the Best Buy extended warranty thing). They told him to basically screw off. Months later, many threats and a letter to the better business bureau got him a brand new 17 inch iMac compliments of Best Buy incorporated!

Macs didn't even make their way to all of the Best Buy stores last time they tried this. I remember after the iMac came out they were claiming to be seeling Macs at Best Buy, but an hour drive to the nearest Best Buy at the time revealed no Macs. Hopefully, this is true, because we now have a Best Buy in my hometown.

Not sure your location or last visit to CompUSA but here in Orlando, the last 2-3 times I've been there, they've had at least 2 Apple reps, very warm and knowlegdable guys. AND the mac section was full with these reps answering tons of questions. That was when i bought my 23". I told the rep about the mac conspiracy at CompUSA that the pc loving commie bastards always sabotage the macs, he didn't think that but did aggree that he has to restore from backup CDs every week. All the macs also had internet access.

So, my compUSA is a might fine place to buy a mac now a days.
 
lots of people buy computers at best buy, and its very convient place to shop for other reasons...this could help out apple alot get macs into more mainstream stores. everyone goes to bestbuys...only computer people go to compusa's...
 
My local apple reseller has not been known for having the latest hardware, but now they have a 12", 15" and 17" powerbook right next to the 12" and 14" iBooks. They have a 17" iMac, an eMac, a duelly g4 powermac, several older color crt Macs, and a whole plethora of software and accessories.

When I first started considering macs, had I seen that display I would have bought one on the spot. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything, and no one near here did either.

I ended up waiting (to my benefit), and I had to research a ton before I felt comfy enough to buy a computer sight unseen.

I figure the more people you put a great product in front of, the more people will buy. I don't think it can hurt. Much... 🙂
 
Its a discount store

People go there because its cheap to buy equipment, macs are not cheap to buy, I see them successfully selling emacs, imacs and 1 or 2 ipods. I have friends working at Target in the electronics dept. They say that customers love to play with the ipods but when it comes to a purchase the customers say "it's a really cool product but it's too expensive".

it's about time. that's a step in the right direction. the following step they need to take is to get decent processors for the price they are charging.
 
Most important to me is will they start carrying Mac software again? That would have most positive impact on me. I've got several Apple Stores and CompUSA's in my area, so the added hardware availability is not important to me. Getting Macs in front of as many people as possible IS important. I remember Macs (G4 cubes and CRT iMacs) being sold at my local Circuit City a few years back, but no sales people ever came near them, and Circuit City is awful for in your face, commission seeking types. Then they were gone...

I shop at Best Buy and don't consider myself a fool.... They have the DVD collection based on pricec:selection I know of...
 
All CompUSA's must not be created equal, because the one near me ahas always been great, both for Mac shopping nad Mac repairs. Well-staffed (friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging people to USE the Macs not just watch the demos), well laid-out (all the latest hardware, tons of Cinema Displays, variety of demos always running) and well-stocked. And this isn't in one of the major matro areas. Luck of the draw? Or maybe the CompUSA arrangement is past its growing pains. Time to ty it on other chains.

That's true. There should be quite a lengthy evaluation process before someone is permitted to purchase a macintosh. Possibly an essay question as well.
 
Mac's got me into Aerosmith for free!

Too bad I wasn't a mac user at the time. However, a kick ass guy at the local CompUSA helped me out so I got some free tix for myself, my friends and the mac guy that helped me.

Aerosmith's production people all use Macs (except the accountant).

This is how I got into macs! lol... that would be a good commercial "I was thinking about a Mac, Aerosmith closed the deal!"

I hadn't been backstage since highschool, forgot how fun it can be.

(I've got a QS G4 733 and a 22" Cinema and I'm waiting on the 15.4" PB to buy another Mac. I'll get another Tower when the 970 is reality).
 
all of you who are insulting Best Buy as a discount store or for stupid people: you're such elitists! good lord. sure, service at best buy is not always the best, but then the people i saw at the Apple store in Memphis didn't look like 150 IQs either. Best buy would be a great place to expand Apple's market. it's much more widespread than CompUSA. there are no Apple stores here in Austin, and there are 2 best buys closer than the nearest compUSA, or Fry's for that matter.

Best Buy is an easy place to shop at. i am not a consumer who goes into a store just to ask employees what i should do. if i want to buy something, i learn about it online, at the company's store, and from more official reviews. i don't care what a clerk says, or if his IQ is 75. i just go there to buy the thing i need. sure, it's nice to have an intelligent conversation with a mac salesman, but that is a commodity i don't need, whatsoever.
