Nothing will stay on my desktop? help

recently all of the files on my desktop, mainly mp3s and jpegs just dissapeared and now nothing will appear on my desktop, any files that are dragged there dissapear, the files are still there if they are searched for in spotlight but they do not visually appear on the desktop

i am very confused as to why this has happened?

has anyone got an answer as to why or a solution to fix this problem

Take a look in your Finder Preferences – under the 'General' tab there are options that determine which items you want to show on the Desktop. It might be that some of those have become inadvertently switched off?

Probably won't help but it might be worth opening up Terminal and typing...

cd Desktop
rm .DS_Store

Then log out and log in. That should remove any stored oddities for the Desktop folder.

Nope.

Its broke.

Mine broke too.

Its a 10.4.8 thing I think.

I just made another user and copied all my files over.

Somethings gone wrong in your /Library/ Directory.
