2G iPod Shuffle In Stores On Friday

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

While pre-orders of Apple's 2G iPod Shuffle have recently begun to ship to customers, Apple has announced the general availability of the music player in Apple Retail Stores and Authorized Retailers worldwide this Friday.

AppleInsider has reported that while retailers may get stock of the players prior to Friday, they will not be allowed to place them out for sale until Friday.

Note: 2G = Second Generation. Second generation iPod Shuffles have a capacity of 1 Gigabytes.

Appleinsider called this correctly then, I wonder if this will be the top selling iPod model this Christmas.

What are the chances that they are going to (finally) release the new video iPods on friday, and the release is actually going to be a double release?

And the chance that they have been assembling these new Video iPods, in secret, piggybacked with shipping of the new shuffles?

personally i hope not, as I've spent my apple budget for the year

24" iMac
Elgato EyeTV2 Hybrid
USB 4 Ports
Nike+ trainers
Nike + sensor

I'm not sure I can add the cost for a 120GB ipod video on top of that

Seriously thinking about picking one of these up. That clip makes it all worthwhile.

You can probably get the shuffle early, I'm sure one of the retailers will accidently sell one to its customers or have already put it out on display.

I'd suggest putting "2Gn iPod Shuffle" in future articles to avoid confusion.

Maybe call it G2 iPod Shuffle

You won't get any confusion until the G3 comes out.

There's already enough confusion about the whole GB vs Gb thing, I suggest we drop the whole "G = Generation" thing and just write "gen." already (acronym for generation).

And since software works in versions, how about "iPod shuffle v2" if "2nd gen. iPod shuffle" is too long to type?

Apple Labels it as the iPod shuffle 1G 2nd Gen, so I think this should be the term used. Also, my order status shows my shuffle is now scheduled for delivery by Nov 2.

I think that it will be very popular this season. Here's why:

- It's relatively cheap. Almost a stocking stuffer.

- It's small and cool looking.

- It's very convenient with the built in clip for those who commute, and of course for those who use it while exercising.

- A simple design compared to many other offerings on the market.

But Without The Free 38 Character Engraving What's The Point?

I think the free 38 character engraving is one of the things that makes this product so special. Buying one without it seems to devalue it's significance to me.

Examples of cool engravings would be:

Reward 4 Return 555.555.6789 Taylor B.
Frank Ford 555.555.6789 Please Return

I say zero. The "true" video iPod is actually MUCH more than a mere iPod. Thus it will take a presentation to discuss what it does, new supporting software, and just as likely, a new supporting service option.
