macbook has an X through the battery "No batteries Available"

This seems to be happening now... The laptop was drained all the way down and died, becuase i was away and forgot the power adapter.... It sat for a couple days... now i finally boot it back up with the power adaptor, and the battery doesn't seem to be working...

When i press the battery button on the bottom of the battery, it just blinks green really fast.

Any ways to diagnose/fix this?

if resetting the PMU and the battery didnt help than something is pretty wrong, you are going to want to call apple. sorry, hope someone here has any other ideas these are the only two i can tihnk of and if they didnt help…

Yep, I think you're going to have to contact Apple.

You might try resetting your PRAM, but you'll probably end up having to see what Apple can do for you.

i had that problem with my mbp, and apple just replaced my battery lickity split. no problems since

Your battery is dead, or will be soon. They'll replace it easy. If you are near a store, just go get it swapped out.

This was a royal pain to find (they're Support search algorithm has to be one of the worst I've ever seen). It's the http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...e Support Page for the follwing problems:

The battery of a MacBook or MacBook Pro computer may:

* Appear to have no charge (zero percent)
* Be unable to power the computer by itself; the computer might work only when it is connected to the MagSafe power adaptor, which only shows a green LED
* Appear with a black "X" icon on the menu bar

Yeah, you should go to Apple about this. It almost reminds me of those stories where the batteries exploded, but I don't think you're in danger of that.

The same exact thing happened with my macbook. Resetting things won't fix it, I had tried it all. What you need to do is bring it to an apple store. That's what i did and one of the genius bar guys went and got a new battery right away. I don't know why, but with the new notebooks, you can't let the battery die all the way because it cannot be recharged after. I have a powerbook and the battery has died more than once, but it will recharge. So, all you have to do is bring it to an apple store if you are near one. If you aren't, call apple, but you may need to send your computer in.

I've never been quite sure about this issue....

I had it. I came home, had let it run down, really low, and then left it overnight again... It died, as per these reports.... X through the battery icon, flashing lights.

So, I took the battery out and left it for a while. I noticed that the first few seconds after I plugged the battery in, It came up with a number for charging, and then replaced it with the X. So It was't that the battery was "dead", the Macbook was detecting it initially each time.

New electronic devices are more complex, and can "crash". Even mobiles and Set top boxes can, something we have traditionally not been used to in older generations of these items (It wasn't acceptable for old mobiles, VCR's or calculators to crash, odd how it is now)

So, I decided the battery may have crashed... we dont have a reset switch on it, so I killed it the fastest way I could..... unplug it and pop it in the fridge to reduce the temp.

An hour later I popped it in and viola, I had my battery back...... that was 6 months ago.
