Why is it that after I have done a complete erase and install of panther on my powerbook that I'm looking to sell, the name of the hard drive still comes up as
"xli"?

Shouldn't that have gone will everything else? Been renamed to "Macintosh HD" or whatever the default name is?

What opinion should I select or what is the safest way of getting rid of everything on my computer before I sell it to a complete stranger?

Are you sure it was an erase and install; because that isn't the default install type. Did you reformat the drive in Disk Utility first? 🙂

yeah, before you reinstall (while booting from disk) you have to go to options and select to do a complete reinstall. Otherwise it will do an achive and install which isn't the same...maybe that's the problem

I didn't reformat with Disk Utility. I'll give that a try next.
