A friend of mine has his PowerBook protected through the built-in PowerBook password protection in OS 8.6. About two weeks ago he changed his password, but now he can't remember it, and thus can not start up his PowerBook.
Is there any way around this? We have tried to start up from CD-ROM, but I does not wan't to.

Try starting up from other CDs, like 8.5 or 9 that might do the trick...If he could startup in SCSI disk mode or Target disk mode (firewire) -whichever you can use - then you can copy your data off the computer and do a clean install. I'd call Apple they might be able to help you... Hope you get this thing worked out...
