I was looking for a file today using spotlight. It didnt find it. I then navigated to where I thought it was and sure enough it was right there, with the keyword i entered in the title.

What's the deal? Do I have to have spotlight re-index the disk? Why doesn't it know about all my files?

Are you sure you didn't accidentally put some flying apostrophes in the search box? I've had the same thing before, but then I realised I didn't quite type it in correctly...

Just double checking, because this is a possible explanation...

Did you exclude any areas from being indexed by Spotlight? That would explain why certain files in plain view were not retrieved.

Spotlight exclusions are set in the Privacy tab of the Spotlight preference pane in System Preferences.
