My usb ports in my c2d macbook don' t seem to be working. when i plug in my digital camera (sony) or itunes phone (motorola), nothing happens. i tried both of these devices on my 2 old powerbooks and they sync fine. anyway i can check whether my macbook usb ports are functioning?

Plug them in, and check in the System Profiler under usb if they are visible or not.
Try to check also with an USB mouse or keyboard if you have. (Maybe some soft update is needed, if they show up in System Prof.).

I had the same problem. Very easy to fix. Just reset the EFI and SMC. For reseting the EFI press Shift+Control+Option+Power button and make sure your MacBook is plugged in. Then power it on and before the gray display appears press Command+Option+R+P until rebooted. That's it
