I know there has to be some hack in the terminal or elsewhere to turn the green light from the isight off for good...anyone know? I've searched google to all ends... 🙁

For what reason may I ask?

A useful hack that I've found for annoying lights is to cover them with bluetack or something 😀

I had the check engine light on my car that was always on, bugging me, and i found black tape fixed it perfectly.😀

Back to your question, I don't know of the line of code that will turn that light off. Although in theory its firmware could be changed to do just that, of course the risk would be all yours if you were to do that.

I like the green light. What if someone remotley accessed my iSight and saw my duck slippers?

I doubt there's anything you could easily do in Terminal. It'd be easier to open 'er up and cut the light right out.

Blue tack would look terrible Darwin, whiteout would be a more suitable alternitive.

The LED need not be firmware controlled. More likely that they just wired it in line with the CCD so that whenever there's power to the CCD there's power to the LED.

Just cover it up with anything opaque.

I'm curious though, what actually annoys you about it? Is it too bright? Bad colour?

my eyes are burning!

I'm sure it's just a power light, the only way to turn it off would be to disconnect it in your display. Might be almost impossible depending on how it's built.

As far as me, I swear that the little isight power led on my macbook pro hurts my eyes. Sounds daft, I know, but it really does. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time. I thought my eyes were just tired, or that I don't like being on video and just felt uncomfortable because of that. I happened to cover the led by accident when moving the display forward or back and realized it was actually the led.

Anyone else?
