my wife is always complaining the fonts are too small - like in the book marks bar, or the system preferences for ex. some we can change, but many seem fixed size. is there anyway to make fonts larger throughout the system without lowering the screen resolution?

There are a few options in the Universal Access pane of System preferences that may help your wife, but they won't change the font size. Can I ask why you don't want to change the resolution? :)

It's a 13-inch monitor, and she appreciates 13-inches of real estate. Just not 10-point size fonts that come with it.

i know this doesn't solve your exact problem, but ctrl + scroll wheel produces a zoom effect. might help you in certain circumstances :)
