macOS Help building Hypermail on OS X

I've been trying to get hypermail to build on 10.4.8, with no luck. It configures fine, but when I run 'make' it goes for a bit and then dies with the following error:
error: conflicting types for 'strcasestr'
/usr/include/string.h:88: error: previous declaration of 'strcasestr' was here

I've tried the tips in the INSTALL file. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. I have a lot of mail that I want to archive.
