This is PC4200. Macs use PC5300.

I have that G.skill in my macbook and had it in my iMac before i sold the iMac. Worked great.

I have the same in my iMac and works great, although I paid $79 a piece from Newegg only a few months ago.

They do work, but the rest of your mac will run that bit slower to go with the slow ram.

so if i want to go to 2 gigs from 1 gig, should i go for the slower, but cheaper ram or buy 2 sticks from newegg for my MBP?

You spent so much more buying a model current MBP, it deserves the correct ram to run at its full potential.
