iPhone Will have third party support

A patent for the iPhone gave room for third party developers.

I have not concerned myself with patents much but It clearly states THIRD PARTY APPLICATIONS (1220) on one of the pages.

Wait this might not concern the iPhone although it is written within the document.
If so is there a patent directly for the iPhone?
