Adding 60 GB into my library at one time.

So I just got a Mac because I hated Windows too much.

I'm going to add all of my music into my iTunes library at one time. I would like to do it in a way that works for me.

The main problem I have is this: I look at my library in three different way - by artist, by album, and by date added. In my old iTunes library, everything seemed all over the place.

Is there a way I can make sure that my songs add by artist, then in order of track numbers? When I upload things and then sort it by date added, the track are all over the place.

Also, if anyone can clue me in to how I "Select All" instead of clicking everything with the apple key, one folder at a time, I appreciate it.
Thanks

iTunes-> Add To Library

Find the folder that contains the music. Click the first artist folder, scroll the the last hold shift and click the last artist.

I know exactly what you mean. The problem is, that iTunes imports the tracks so bloody fast over FireWire (or presumably USB2) that multiple tracks are imported at the exact same "second", so when you sort by date added, yes it does appear to jumble them all up (simply because five tracks might be added to the library at 09:24:49). When you rip them from CD, it takes several seconds to rip each track so this issue is irrelevant.

That bugged me too. My solution was to simply not look at them by date added again. However I wouldn't be surprised if there was an iTunes script out there somewhere that solved this problem.

Why would you sort by date added for general use anyway? If you're adding 60GB at the same time, date added is going to be pretty useless.

What you could do is just set iTunes to sort by Album, which automatically puts the tracks in order as well, assuming you have them tagged correctly. Then use the "Date Modified" field instead of "Date Added", which will typically give you the day you last either 1) Added it to your hard drive, or 2) Updated the ID3 tag information. This way your entire collection isn't separated by a matter of minutes.
