I'm just curious if it is worth it to download and install the version of Virex I can download from the .mac site. I have never used it. Is it any good? Do you have any problems with it (like software conflicts)? Should I even bother?

One of the old versions used to have a software conflict with fink (which is used to install open-source unix stuff) but the current version is fixed. Personally I don't use Virex as I think it's a waste of time. I've got a mac so I'm unlikely to get a virus. Sure I may act as conduit to PC users for a virus but I very rarely forward files anyway so it's unlikely I'd pass on a virus too. Consequently why have one more thing running that may slow down my mac?
