Apple Special Event Feb 1st

Dunno if anyone else has seen this but an image has appeared of Flickr of what seems to be an Apple event invite. The weird thing is that it doesn't use the standard Apple font I don't think (although I suppose they could always change) but it seems to be legit since someone who works for a finacial mag has confirmed that they also received one and has posted a full screenshot of it (none of these blurry mobile phone camera images). Could this be when they announce the new iLife and iWork and a beatles deal - it seems to fit the rumours.

I sure hope this is true - i'm excited already!

Anyway the links to the pics are:

This thing looks pretty good to me - if it is a fake it's a good one. I noticed that the font is different (as did the guy/gal who posted this) but in some ways I think this makes it more likely to be true. The think is that if someone was trying to make a fake they obviously wouldn't use a different font (particularly when there's obviously been quite a lot of attention to detail in it elsewhere) so m guess is that for whatever name Apple has decided to use a different font. It just seems to fit the rumors to have an event now.

Forget about the font and messed up (I've been waiting to use that), the fact that there are reports for an event on the 20th and 1st make it fake (no way Apple would have two so close).

A little Time Machine-ish.

Google'd the quote, and one link led to this. Happens to be an excerpt from the song 'Days of long ago' by Auld Lang Syne.

Thoughts?

Sorry, but in my experience with Apple advertising, Apple does not change the font. It is a part of the corporate identity. They also make it very clear in their advertising guidelines to both retail dealers and ACN members that only authorized logos and fonts are to be used.

Apple now use Helvetica on the Downloads page of Apple.com. So this cant really be dismissed for wrong font syndrome this time.

Fake...

at first I thought it might be real, but after putting the "itunesphoneinvite" pic (the invite with the jeans) side by side with it, it becomes clear that someone tried and failed. 1. the email address on a real one is RSVP_events@apple.com and the fake one is events@apple.com. next, as pointed out, the font is wrong. 3. The size of the picture (not the directions) is too small, and there is toomuch white space around the pic. Finally, the logo is fuzzy. Oh ya...and one truly final blow is pic is in .png format...which unless that's how apple sends it...is the default photoshop format (as you all know).

Um, the default Photoshop format is its own PSD, not PNG. Maybe you're thinking of Macromedia Fireworks?

one more reason...

Aside from the leading and line-spacing and font problems, and aside from the wrong RSVP address, there is a non-optional hyphen missing from the phrase "invitation only." (Apple doesn't make mistakes like that -- look at the old invites.)

Clearly this forger is not, to put it mildly, "details oriented."

Its all wrong

Reading thread with interest.

I think its a fake for a number of reasons. Apple uses the word "old" instead of auld so if they were quoting the robert burns poem they got this wrong if they were not quoting it they would have written forgotton and not forgot. I detail I think apple would have got correct.

The poor quality could be due to compression of a scanned image but the shading on the bottom right of the apple logo is not consistent with this. It looks like it has been masked badly onto the image.

The lack of event on the centers web site could be apples secrecy but the thing that turns really shows it is fake is the fact the bottom of the invite with directions to the Moscone Section is an excact copy of a previous invite and at a closer look in photoshop the edges are not consistent.

Its Fake: How do I know?

Firstly, its not well produced.

But, most importantly, it doesn't use Apple's *official* font. All Apple communications use their font, Apple Myriad.

But perhaps most importantly, it's almost 5pm on 2 February on the West Coast and there's still no sign of the event.

I'm no expert but in my mind that suggests the invite could be a fake...

if this is real, apple needs to fire their proofreaders... i mean, questions like "should old acquaintances be forgot?" usually end in question marks... call me crazy...

No, it's not a question. The next word is 'and'.

A nice image and again something that has to do with the solar system. I still wait for the first OS after the big cats season. They ran out of big cats (Panthera species) now and I suppose they might switch. One has to admit though that the first release of OS X was not a big cat but a cheetah which is only a distant relative to the Panthera cats (Lion, Panther, Jaguar, Tiger and Leopard). Anyhow people will usually refer to cheetahs as big cats because the look so alike.
I am expecting to see MacOS XI Mercury or MacOS XI Lunar or MacOS XI Jupiter

Ask Moscone Center

Why doesn't somebody call Moscone Center and verify whether an event is scheduled. Instead of calling and asking "Is there an Apple event of Feb 1" (which will likely cause the response of "we can't give out that info"), call and say "I am scheduled to deliver some equipment for Apple's Feb 1 event and would like details on where I can park my truck". If they say "there is no event" then you know the invite is fake. If they tell you what to do, then it is real.
