Add to the debate about battery care my experience over the last year with my G3 powerbook - I left the battery on all the time (even though I used it as a desk top most of the winter) and now the battery discharges to 50% and gives up. As a first time Apple user, I didn't condition the battery when I got it, so maybe that's part of my problem.
Recently, in the hope of minimizing further decline, I started removing the battery when I'm plugged in. Doing so, I've learned the iBook doesn't have a backup battery for the time and date function, so the system resets itself to:
7 pm, 12/31/69.
My question is: How did that date get chosen at the default?
