Mail has been running fine for me for ever on all my Macs. Now on my iMac C2D, just over past two days Mail keeps crashing after startup.

I've deleted the .plist file and repaired permissions. I've downloaded all updates from SU. What else can I do?

This is in the report sent to apple:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0xb01a0eec

My wife's account is fine. So, it must be something in my mailbox. I guess I'll archive it and start over.

It sounds like somebody sent you a corrupted file. This can be a real PITA. If you have webmail access to the account, you could try deleting suspicious mail there, then loading up Mail.app.

I had exactly the same problem, I moved /username/Library/Mail to the desktop and it opened fine, then I gradually copied the files from /desktop/mail to /username/Library/Mail until I found the culprit (in my case the plist for mailbox rules) and then I appeared to have my mail back in it's box.
