Transplanting an Airport Extreme Card

Just a quick question,

Do the 17inch powerbooks have a completely integrated and non-removable airport card in them? Or is it a normal airport extreme card, the same as what you would use in a 12 inch? What I would love to do is remove it out of someone's 17inch who doesnt use it and stick it in my 12inch.

Would this be possible?

no no no no no, the 17 inch has an airport extreme card in it. However, this will fit into the 12 inch powerbook so your alright.

He never mentioned anything but an AE card.

this is weird.

maybe he meant "no no no no a normal AE card" as opposed to "integrated" AE that the guy seemed to be asking about? 😕

Oh well thats good news tho that I can get the AE card out of it... saves me some money 😀

Where is the card on the 17"?

I would say it's near the place where the memory is. It is surely a customer installable/removeable part. Check Apple's Knowledge Base for information on memory installation and follow those directions to get inside the computer. Then just look for the card, it should be pretty well labeled.
 
I tried it today, there is definately no way to get to the airport extreme through the memory door 🙁
 
I've confirmed it with someone on the Apple discussion boards... the card in the 17" is not a removable one. Removing it will void the warranty (meaning you're going to have to go deep inside to get to it).

The last issue of MacAddict (July '03) had a disection of the 17" PowerBook, so you could see where the AE Card is at in the bohemeth.
