edges of screen odd when watching dvds

when watching a dvd on my new mac book pro, during scenes of high action, the edges of the screen ( top and bottom) are not straight black lines as they should be, but are kind of jumpy and anything but straight. has anyone expirienced this before and is there a resolution?
