Feeler 17" PB G4 1.5 Ghz 1gig ram 80GB HD

I just want to know how much this would be worth. This is not the laptop in my sig, so don't worry richP, your machine is still my main squeeze. The only problem with it is the firewire 400 port is iffy, but the 800 port works just fine, so it doesn't really matter. The power cord is the only thing else included, but if you need any other adapters I can probably work that out (I have plenty, probably cheap or free). Most people here has tons of software already, and since it isn't allowed without the disks he is keeping, so I wont mention what its loaded with (it is loaded!).

How much does everyone think it will go for? What would you offer for it? I will get some pics, but you all know what this looks like for now. Selling on ebay is OK but this is a mac, and I would rather give you all first dibbs if he wants to. He said he would give me a cut for selling it, and if you have been reading the marketplace lately I have been trying to finish out a powerbook collection and need all the help I can get!

Ever since richP sold me his PB i have been enamored with the general honesty and integrity of the regulars here! If this becomes a FS thread, I will post my ebay info (100% over 5 years so no worries). I figured it would go for a little under 1k.

Thanks
Shu

I believe you have to include the OS software (Panther, Tiger, etc.) that came with the machine per Apple EULA. In addition, better be careful about the extra software and licensing, the mods around these parts strictly adhere to the rules regarding that stuff. Just a word of warning.

Thanks for the recommendation rich. Also I have never read a single EULA, so I will take your word for it. But what if it was lost? I figured even without the disks it should fetch 900 to 1000 on ebay. What would it fetch here?

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but they wont let you sell it here without them.

Sorry, Good luck selling it.

Oh well, I'll just tell him craigslist or ebay. Thanks everyone.

But since it is just a feeler how much should I post it in craigslist for? Since it has a the port problem and he lost the disks. I just wanted a few opinions on listing price, since I cant list it here until he digs up the disks.

I hate to be the first person to offer an estimate, but if I was in the market for such a machine I'd probably offer you 750 shipped. Firewire is sometimes important for me (without another fw800 computer), so perhaps i'm being stingy, I suppose I'd do 950 for a mint 17" PPC if that's what I wanted.

Folks on this board though don't give any value to an OS or software without disks though, we understand that it's as good as (or is) pirated and worth nothing.

Exactly, I told him to dig up his disks or he will loose 100. I just pulled that out of my ass but, it was the thought that counts. When he finds the disks I wll do a clean install with them. For now I am going to tell him I won't do anything until he gets those. He knows he threw the box away(idiot). As for the port, there are plenty of cheap $4 adapters to use the FW800 port for everything. It might be smart to include one of those to make anyones arguement null. The only thing I plug in is my ipod and my camera myself, they are all usb. I guess it is good for TDM but I have never had the need to do that.

Thanks for everyones help! I will try this again when I have everything lined up.

I've got the same machine, minus the stick o' 512.

I bought it last summer/fall for $1100 I think, so methinks it's now worth $950 or so.

For what it's worth, don't do this to sellers. It's patronizing and will disenchant them. The port either works or does not. Adding in the adaptor is very thoughtful of you / your friend, but it doesn't "nullify" anything. The port still doesn't work. You should understand that your buyers will either not care about this issue, and need no "nullification," or are going to react negatively to this....

If you want to do anything confidence building, I'd address what you know about why it doesn't work. I.E. to give people confidence that it is not a sign of a somehow failing logic board.

Nonetheless, it sounds like a nice computer with a lot of life in it. Good luck with your sale.

I understand your point. If anyone tells you a 2 year old laptop is perfect, they are probably lying. I just wanted to try to give a clever workaround. I wouldn't try to sell trash to the people here. I just wanted to give a honest assessment of the condition and ask how much I should ask for it. I appreciate everyone's input.

If this helps, I just sold mine here locally via craigslist, exactly the same as yours except 2 GB RAM, and I got 1200.00 for it.... and yes, mine was in near perfect condition. No boxes, just Book and Powercord.
