Apple TV audio defects

I got my AppleTV today, and I love it except for one problem. The audio has problems. It's a little hard to describe, but it almost sounds like when audio clips when overdriven, except that it's not at loud parts where clipping would normally occur, rather it happens randomly. It affects music and audio from videos/movies, and happens when playing synced content as well as streaming content. I'm using an HDMI-HDMI cable for video and audio. Just kind of wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing? I'm going to call Apple about it tomorrow, because whatever is causing it, it's unacceptable.

Can you try another cable (or try a different audio connection)?

Typically this results from a bad HDMI cable. Use a reliable one like Monster. Cheap ones are horrible!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to see if I can scrounge up a TOS-link cable tomorrow. It doesn't particularly sound like a problem with the cable, but obviously I need to rule that out. The HDMI cable I've got is one I bought from the Apple Store, and it's made by XtremeMac. I simply refuse to buy a cable that costs much more than $20 or so (I'm an EE and have built many, many cables of different types so I know what kind of ballpark manufacturing cost falls in), but if the cable seems to be the problem, I will at least take it back and exchange it.

I don't think it is the cable, try to connect it with toslink or L/R connections. After all, it currently outputs only stereo anyway.
