A month or two ago, my iMac G5 started not being able to wake up from sleep. The hard drive would spin back up but the screen would remain dark.. I thought it wasn't too big an issue so I just started shutting it down instead of sleeping..
A few weeks later, it started having kernel panics on start up. I'd have to start it up a few times to get it to start up without a kernel panic. I was trying to hold out til 10.5 to do a clean reformat but it got ridiculous. After trying all the regular stuff, I archived/installed.. and when that didn't work, I did a full reformat and reinstall.
The first 2 days were peachy, then I got the dreaded kernel panic again this morning. Here's the logs.. I think they're the relevant ones..
does the "AppleSMU -- shutdown cause = 3" mean anything relevant?
The RAM checks out fine, and as it was a clean install, I can't really blame it on software.. The only thing I installed that I may have installed when the problems first started is "eclipse". But I can't see why that would cause problems this time round considering it's a drag-drop install, and I haven't even opened it yet..
Any ideas guys? Is it a hardware problem?
